OVERVIEW

Client Introduction

Bradley University is a top-ranked private university in Peoria, Illinois. Bradley University’s Interactive Media Department hosts an annual FUSE event at the Peoria Riverfront Museum which is a long standing tradition. This is an event that is produced all by students.

Previous Experience

The FUSE website displays all of the exhibits created by Bradley University students, detailing the individual teams and members information. It allows users to search students and view faculty and staff for the department. In addition it is the way that the industry professional VIP’s sign in to view information along with RSVP for the event.

The previous FUSE website had some issues in layout and consistency throughout. Overall, these issues made it difficult to convey a clear representation and message in a professional concise layout.

Some issues were:

  • Content clarity
  • Lack of content hierarchy
  • Visual inconsistency
  • Lack of professional aesthetic

SOLUTION

Scope

After identifying their goals of the project, I began doing research and comparing different website layouts/functionality through a competitive analysis. I designed a cohesive visual system to help the client apply a clear and consistent style across their website. I created various iterations of wireframes and prototypes to compare and test different designs to ensure a good user experience. The final website incorporates engaging interactions and animations to enhance user engagement.

TAKEAWAYS

Takeaways

  • Communication: This project showed the importance of always keeping constant communication with all members on the team to ensure everyone is on the same page and understand expectations for deliverables and deadlines. At one point in the project a big piece of data in our excel sheet needed was not filled out in the correct layout by the assigned person which caused a delay in going live with the necessary pages affecting the progress. I understand the importance of getting of my comfort zone to get to know what others are doing and ask more questions to ensure all members of the team have a thourough understanding.

  • Prioritization: Having a plan to prioritize what you know you need to do is very important along with knowing what to work on in a limited amount of time. The way to divide time between phases of the project to keep progress while still contuniung to iterate and plan for future steps.
